Dental emergencies require immediate attention to prevent complications. Below are common issues we treat, along with first-aid tips to follow before reaching our clinic:
- Severe Toothache: Intense pain may indicate an infection or damage. Rinse with warm water and use over-the-counter pain relievers (avoid placing aspirin on gums).
- Knocked-Out Tooth: Handle the tooth by the crown, rinse gently, and try to place it back in the socket. If not possible, store in milk or between cheek and gum.
- Broken or Chipped Tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water, apply a cold compress, and save any tooth fragments.
- Dental Abscess: Swelling or pus indicates a serious infection. Seek immediate care to prevent spread.
- Lost Filling or Crown: Bring the filling or crown to the dentist and temporarily cover the area with sugarless gum or dental cement.
- Soft Tissue Injury: Apply pressure with a clean cloth to control bleeding.
- Orthodontic Emergency: Broken braces, protruding wires, or loose brackets can cause pain or injury. Cover sharp wires with wax or cotton and contact us immediately.
